If you fancy seeing a film, Bucharest is a cinema-goer’s haven: from old theathres with a touch of history (nowadays fighting for existence against the new megaplex theathres) to new theathres, usually situated in shopping malls and equipped with the latest sound systems, there is certainly one for you!
No matter what type of movie you want see, it is good to know that you are not alone; Romanians have made “going to the cinema” one of their weekly occupations. We suggest you to arrive at least 30 minutes early.
You can also call and make an on-line reservation, but this service is only available at the bigger cinemas inside the shopping centres.
If you rather enjoy seeing an old movie or a genre film (French, German, Hungarian, etc.), you can check with the Cultural Centres or Foreign Institutes that prepare something new each week.
