Biking in Bucharest

Even though two years ago Bucharest did not seem to be the place for biking, the city has positively changed in this sense. A lot of bikes can be rented for free in different parks, eg.: Herastrau Park, on the left side of the main entrance of the Park (Piata Charles de Gaulle). Different NGOs, companies and even the City Hall have done a good job at developing the parks and offering more leisure time activities for free.
Hint! If you want to rent a bike, do not forget your passport or ID card and be there early in order to avoid queuing… If you want avoid queues of people, go to Rue du Pain bakery (see bakery section) – they have 3 bikes they rent out for free, and French Bakery also does the same!

Bike shops & repairing

There are loads of bike shops in the city and we have tried several. Ciclo General Service is quite ok and close to Dorobanti, even though the boss always seems to be in a bad mood, they repair your bike for a fair price and do a good job. But a new place named Ciclop opened up this summer, offering new and used bikes, mostly from Holland. And their service is great, in an alternative back yard downtown- this is definitely our new favourite.

Bike Parking

Although parking is a very big problem in Bucharest for cars, there is plenty of space for bikes!
There are many bike-parking places in Bucharest: you can practically park your bike wherever you want, just lock it, like in every other city. Just make sure you lock it well as sometimes loose parts can be stolen.
